Macbeth at ASWARA

Aah... Macbeth. Probably one of the more renowned plays of Shakespeare's works. All that talk about power, ambition and murder is enough to make anyone's hair stand on end. If it doesn't, then the blast of air-conditioning in the theater hall would ensure that for you. I don't know why but theater halls tend to always be extremely cold.

Anyways, no literature student can go through life and not know about the notorious uncle-killing nephew with his beautiful & ambitious yet cold-hearted wife. So when ASWARA students decided to stage this particular play I was like "Cool!". I havent seen a staging of Shakespeare's work in ages so to actually see one staged in Bahasa Melayu would definitely be interesting. To make things even more interesting, my cousin Nazzim is playing the part of McDuff, the guy who ends up beheading Macbeth.

I must admit that I was a little skeptical about the idea of the play being Bahasa Melayu. I mean the whole play is complicated enough being in English, but to translate it into Malay and do it justice? Hmm... that was definitely the question going through my head. But I've definitely learnt to never underestimate the power of the Malay language. The translation was amazingly done. Kudos to Ahmad Yatim for succesfully capturing the essence of the entire play and at the same time showcasing the beauty of the Malay language. I was enthralled from beginning to end. There were words that I heard that night which I never thought existed. Two thumbs up to the writer.

As for the play itself, the ASWARA students were definitely in their element. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were cast perfectly and they were totally believable and the rest of the cast were simply icing on the cake. Nazzim (McDuff) beheaded Macbeth beautifully at the end but the goriness of the scene was so intense people just can't help but laugh. Not saying that the scene was funny, but you know, once in an uncomfortable situation laughter always diffuses the mood.

The only thing that I didn't get was why their costumes were smudged up and dirtied. It just doesn't make sense to me. But if the ASWARA folks interpreted these people living in a state of dishevellement and shabbyness even as royalty, then so be it.

All in all it was an enjoyable play. Although I managed to get in for free the rm5 ticket would definitely have been money well spent.

Muzikal "Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup", Panggung Bandaraya KL

For a theater enthusiast, I am ashamed to admit that I have never attended a single bangsawan theater (a popular urban theater mixing music, acting and dancing). So when a friend invited me to attend this show I was like YEAY!! Finally, I get to see what a bangsawan show is actually like.

To my suprise, I think nearly everybody else in KL was thinking the same thing. My friends and I showed up at Panggung Bandaraya to a waiting area jam-packed with people. And as soon as the doors were open people made a bee-line to find seats. We were lucky. We managed to grab the last 4 seats that were left. I had to reserve a seat for a friend who was unfortunately late due to traffic, and during all that time people were hungrily eyeing the empty seat next to me and I could practically see the thoughts that were in their heads "It's not fair! I was here first. That bee-yotch should not reserve seats for latecomers!!"

Back to the play, the show was about the infamous suicidal mother who killed herself just because her hungry kids ate the last bits of fish eggs that she secretly kept for herself. So the play continued off after the suicidal mom threw herself into the gaping rock mouth. Fortunately she managed to regain her senses when she died and vowed to eternally be their guardian and will come to their aid if ever her kids were in a pickle.

So after being abandoned by their mother, Pekan and Melur grew up under the care of Nenek Kebayan, who coincidentally was the Princessof Kerayong's nurse. While Pekan and the Princess Mayang Mengurai secretly knotted their love affair, the King of Kerayong decided to hold a cock fight competition to search for prince for the Princess. The winner of the competition will have the princess's hand in marriage. The Princess, however asks Pekan to disguise himself as a prince, enter the competition and is assured victory by using poison on the cock's talons. Then tragedy begins, when Raja Jayeng Indera Sakti, the loser in the competition, takes revenge.

When tragedy struck, Melur remembering her mom's last dying words took her brother and his bride to the rock and managed to save their lives. And true to fairy-tale style endings, everybody then lived happily ever after.

All in all, the show was amazing. Me being the "bling-bling" sort of person just couldn't take my eyes off the costumes, props and makeup. They were superb!! The stage was amazingly done. Kudos to the stage manager and crew. And as for the costumes... WOW!! It was perfect to the very last detail. The whole performance was Istana Budaya worthy. And oh yeah the acting was really good too ;P

What made the show interesting was the mini shows in between scene changes. I think I was entertained by all sort of old-skool entertainment they could think of; the cha-cha, little kids dancing the twist, zapin anak ayam etc. It was so cool. Certainly beats having to wait in the dark while waiting for the crew to move stuff around.

I must say that my first bangsawan experience was an extremely enjoyable and memorable one. Made even more so by my bunch of friends who managed to over-analyse the whole cock fight competition - He who has the biggest and strongest "cock" gets the girl (get it?) So throughout the entire cock fight scene all 4 of us couldn't stop giggling. Trust literature grads to see things that aren't really there.

So yeah, I think bangsawan is definitely for me. Panggung Bandaraya will be having another bangsawan teater next month, titled "Musang Berjanggut". I for one wont miss it for the world.

Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion

Usually I'm not a believer in the "extras" that so-called makeup experts like to pawn on us. It's bad enough that your makeup bag is already bursting at the seams with all the necessary basics that you need but to add on more stuff just because it helps you to do this and that... it's simply abominable!!

But sometimes... you find yourself pleasantly suprised. Amazed even. That was the situation that I found myself when first experienced the effects of Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

This primer potion from Urban Decay, a low-end line from Sephora, is listed among the top 10 cult favourites for makeup. Makeup artists all swear by this. It's the miracle cure for creased eyeshadow and guarantees intense colours and long-lasting shadow usage.

I found out about this little gem after watching various youtube makeup artists using it before they start their demonstrations and true enough, their eye colours were simply amazing. So with Google at hand, and all the information necessary I was 70% convinced that this was a must-have item. Setbacks abound... It's nowhere to be found in the South East Asia region and to actually get my hands on it a credit card must be at hand. *sigh*

But God took pity on lil ol' me and an online friend sent a vial all the way from the States, FREE OF CHARGE!! I think God just couldn't watch me embarass myself further with my increasingly horrible eye-makeup. So now I am a proud owner of Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion!!

To appease the 30% inside me that still thinks it's all hype, I gave it a little test. I wanted to see if the eyeshadow that has always given me creasing problems in the past would cease to do so after I've used the product. And the verdict...

IT WORKED!!

No more creasing and the colour was fab!! I am so convinved and Urban Decay has officially gotten itself another fan. So in the future, when I run out of this magnificient product would I go through the trouble of international shipping (you know that Sephora ain't coming to our shores anytime soon) and the whopping exchange rate (its USD16, once converted will cost me RM56 minus shipping)?

HELL YEAH!!

Some extras are totally worth the trouble. But before I have to go through all that trouble, frugality shall be my middle name and prayer will be my best friend. I'll be praying to God almighty to suddenly make the Spehora CEO to open up a branch right here in Malaysia. Or at the very least Singapore. Please God please!!

The Return of the Prodigal Blogger

I'M BACK!!

Yes... yes... I'm guilty for blog neglection but I do have a life outside the cyber realm you know. Since I no longer confine myself to my humble abode in Ipoh I am now free to roam the city of KL and make up for lost time.

So what have I been doing?

Bumming around in my new apartment in between sessions of work and thesis finalisation.

Hahaha... totally not the active "making-up-for-lost-time" activity that you would expect eh? But no worries... things have been picking up lately ever since I submitted my thesis (yeay!!) So I've been to several plays, watched some movies, checked out some cool new eateries, hung out with bunches of friends and my most favourite activityof them all... a whole load of shopping.

So yeah... there's loads of stuff to write about. But don't groan just yet. I'm not gonna bore you with all the boring and mundane details. I'll just pick out the best bits and concentrate on that. I do have a life to get back to as I'm sure... so do you ;)

So stick around!

Happy Eid to Muslims everywhere...

I dedicate this post to all my friends, my family and to all who knows me. All I ask is for forgiveness for any mistakes, either big or small, that I may have done unto you. May this Eid bring you joy and happiness and a fresh start towards a life that is blessed by God. Amin...

Help Me!!

I think I've witnessed and experienced more drama in the last 2 weeks to last me an entire lifetime. What is it with people and their need to save so much money that they're willing to forgo comfort and a little bit of privacy just to live like sardines crammed in a can. *sigh*

And now because of the vast majority that feels this way... I now have to endure living like this for god knows how long.
Somebody... please have mercy on me and save me from this fate...

Japan Goodies (pt 1)

Snail Mail!! And big packages at that! I LOVE snail mail! In this day and age of digital technology and electronics snail mail is getting more and more obscure. But me being a firm believer of handwritten letters and stamps still stick to the traditional way of communication. In fact, I still have a snail mail pen pal from Germany who has been communicating with me for the past 12 years. But I'm digressing here... after days of worrying and fretting over the apartment issues it was fantastic to see a huge package delivered to us from our sister in Japan. Aah... the perks of having a sibling overseas. LoL

So here are the few titbits that she gave us. Some figurines of Japanese characters. Most of them were figures of couples in wedding garbs but I especially like this one. It's of a cat eating a watermelon while cooling itself in front of a fan. All the figurines are adorable and they all come with their own backdrop which is pretty cool. I just wished that I could read the kanji descriptions of the figurines to actually figure out what they're all about.

My sis sent loads of stuff but they're mostly the same things to be distributed to the rest of the family. Mum got herself a genuine handmade Japanese teapot made by the mother of one of my sister's friends. And also a handmade cup that she made herself. I must say that my sister has talent in pottery making.

Other stuff included were little knick knacks like keychain and a handpainted Japanese fan and some plush toys for the kiddies. But according to Yuni that's not all that she sent. Apparently there's another box that's coming our way! Yippee!! Yuni is certainly making us love her more and more ;P So once the second boz has arrived I shall commence with Japan goodies part 2 (",)V

I miss you dear sister...

I think she looks just like the Japanese kiddies

This is truly a cliched shot but beautiful nonetheless.

It's been a little over 5 months since my younger sister Yuni stepped unto the plane and headed for the country of the setting sun, Japan. For the next 3 years she'll be a resident of Tokyo, pursuing a Master's degree in Japanese-English Translation.

Nothing can describe how proud I am of my little sister and how much I, surprisingly, miss her. I say suprisingly coz whenever we got together there was always some sort of argument or another. We were like water and oil... as much as you try to mix us up we can never mesh. Safe to say that to avoid arguments we tend to keep out of each other's way.

Seems like distance has brought us closer. We now talk regularly through YM and exchange news and pictures at regular intervals. Once in a while we'll get cool packages with the Japanese postmarks. And once in awhile we'll pack a box of goodies and send them her way. A far cry from the relationship that we used to have when we were living in the same house. But I believe that the change that distance has brought to our relationship will be permanent and I look forward to having my sister back here, together with me in the same country.

Ramadhan is here and for the second time in my life another member of the family is missing. But thank god this time the absence is only temporary. Looking at my mum happily planning our 'buka puasa' menu I suddenly realise that she is missing having her kids all together. Somehow I see the significance of us eating together at the same table for all our meals. It makes my heart ache to have to move out to start my own life but I know that I can't postpone the inevitable any longer. I need to move on to the next phase of my life.

But back to my dear sister Yuni, we're glad that she is safe and sound and having fun living in a strange land. Ramadhan without her is strange but it must be much harder for her to fast when no one around you is not. To prepare your 'buka puasa' dish on your own and eating alone is truly a sad thing indeed but I'm hoping that she is coping with what her oversea student identity entails. For sure it's gonna be hard for all of us come Syawal but thank goodness for digital technology. For now, we'll have to make do with pictures and videos as a substitute of what we are missing.

So here's a shout out to my dear sister Yuni, who's all the way in Tokyo. We all miss you... and we're always thinking about you!! Selamat Berpuasa!!

Glad to know my lil sis is having fun :)

Ramadhan... a month of "excesses"?

Welcome O' holy month of Ramadhan. A month of goodwill and blessing. Of peace and serenity and of freedom and abstinence. The last bit was a bit contradictory there but its true nonetheless. For a whole month all Muslims and believers are free from the evil clutches of the devil and any naughty doings or bad deeds are blameable to no other but yourself. But we ain't totally free. No no no no no... it is throughout this holy month of Ramadhan that we Muslims are given our biggest test. Abstinence of spending. Yeap thats right... every year during Ramadhan Malaysian Muslims are guilty of overspending. Temptation proves itself to be powerful thing indeed and it comes in many shapes and sizes. But througout Ramadhan its ultimate guise is the Ramadhan Bazaar.

Although... in a way fasting folks actually dont stand a chance against the irresistable pull of the bazaar. I mean how can a hungry person withstand the allure of all that food. Especially those exotic cuisines that seems to be synonymous with Ramadhan and Hari Raya like the 'bubur lambuk' and 'rendang'. Suddenly there goes your will power and you NEED to buy that tasty titbit and that mouthwatering snack. Come Maghrib you wonder how your stomach is gonna fit all that food. tsk... tsk... tsk... thats temptation for you.

Temptation does not limit itself to merely the consumers. Lets talk about the businessmen. Why is it all of a sudden the price of a measly fried chicken shoots up from rm2 per piece to rm3? The chicken piece doesn't seem to be any bigger... nor is the recipe any different. What's that you say? Oil prices went up? But didn't it go down again just a few weeks back? hmm... curiouser and curiouser. Moving along to the next stall the mystery deepens. The prices are the same, yet the meal looks like it has been cut in half. tsk... tsk... tsk... how much of a profit margin are we talking about here?

Closer and closer to Syawal temptation's magic grow steadily stronger. Malls are bursting at the seams with people and somehow everyone and everything seems to be spanking new. New clothes, new curtains, new car, new furniture... the list goes on.

Somehow all these "excesses" seem to be part and parcel of Ramadhan and Hari Raya. It's the Malaysian culture, take that away then Ramadhan and Hari Raya will never be the same. So out with the "excesses"? I say nah! Coz the fun part is after Hari Raya itself. Look around and you'll see the true drama actually beginning. So stay tuned for the aftermath of raya. The drama of widening girths and thinning finances". It should be one heck of a show ;)

One day... One day...

In the hopes of perhaps owning my own shisha bottle anywhere in the near future, I have kept this video at hand. That "near future" was uttered about a year ago. *sigh*

Going at upwards of RM150 for a decent bottle, I think I'll shelf that "need" of mine to farther along in the near future. But I'm not letting go of that dream yet. Someday I will own my own bottle!!

Red Earth All-in-One Concealer Kit

My latest purchase (or should I say splurge)... Red Earth's All-in-One Concealer Kit RM55.

If you're skin is anything like mine (oily, temperamental, will break out at a moment's notice) then you will definitely appreciate this little kit. Sometimes even concealers need a little help.

At RM55 the kit definitely beats buying the separate bottles of corrective concealers and whatnots which can range from RM25 to RM100 per bottle. Plus... what if your face decide to grace you with different kinds of problems like blemishes, dark circles and redness all in one go? I for one do not believe in lugging too many products around when I'm on the move so this kit rocks! Plus the compact looks cool so its another excuse to whip it out whenever you can.

So far I've only needed to use the pink and the yellow corrector together with the creamy concealer. I'm pretty happy with the results but I'm waiting to give this baby the ultimate test soon... out all day in the hot blistering sun. Okay maybe not in the blistering sun, probably an air-conditioned mall or something but longevity is the key to a product's great results.

Next item I have my eye on is Red Earth's Eye Perfection Primer (RM45). It is a base meant to prolong eyeshadow's staying power and prevents them from creasing. Since Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion (the ultimate eye makeup base) will not be in Malaysian shores anytime soon I've been scouring pretty much most cosmetic brands for a substitute and I came across this item in Sasa's summer sale catalogue. Online reviews from users have been pretty harsh but users are 50-50 concerning this product. Hence I shall try it out when the opportunity comes. I'm still waiting for my Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion to arrive *please let it be soon!* but once I'm done with that, this little baby will definitely be at the top of my to-buy list.

Neutral Makeup for People Wearing Glasses

Finally!! Panacea (Lauren) * my fave makeup artist* has replied to my request to do a simple everyday look for people who wears glasses. Check it out...

Contrary to what I believed... people who wears glasses aren't supposed to wear shimmers! Oh woe is me. I'm a shimmer and glitter type of gal. But at least lining my eyes is okay. I dont think I can go without eyeliner now that I've finally mastered the use of liquid eyeliner :P

Update: I have new glasses. Its purple. It was an impulsive decision in an attempt to make myself look younger and cool. I dont know if I managed it. Lemme know...

The meaning of LOVE

What does love mean?

A group of professionals posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds and the answers that they got were much deeper than anyone could have imagined:

‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’
Billy - age 4

‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.’
Karl - age 5

‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.’
Danny - age 7

‘If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,’
Nikka - age 6

‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.’
Noelle - age 7

‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’
Clare - age 6

‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’
Mary Ann - age 4

‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’
Jessica - age 8

And the final one:
The answer that touched everyone was from a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing, I just helped him cry’

How to Make easy English Trifle

Made this today. Thought I'd share the how to...

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 pound cake (pre-made or freshly baked)/ swiss rolls
  • 2 cups chilled heavy whipping cream
  • 3 cups custard
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped strawberry / 1 large can fruit cocktail
  • 1/2 cup strawberry preserves/ flavoured jelly
  • Large glass bowl
Step1
Prepare the bowl. Line the bowl with slices of pound cake.

Step2
Brush strawberry preserves onto the cake and set aside. If using jelly, jelly mix must be prepared beforehand. Melt sugar with some water and moisten cake with the sugar water. You can also substitute the sugar water with syrup from the can of fruit cocktail. After the jelly you have prepared hardens scoop it in thin layers onto the cake.

Step3
Spoon one layer of strawberries or fruit cocktail (make sure it is evenly spread out), and then 1/3 of cold custard on top of it.

Step4
Add more cake layers and repeat step 2.

Step5
Repeat step 3.

Step6
Create as many layers as you wish.

Step7
Top final layer with 1/3 of cold custard, chopped strawberries or fruit followed by whipped cream.

Step8
Leave to set in refrigerator. Serve cold.

The Craziness that is English...

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So, one moose, 2 meese? One index, two indices? Is cheese the plural of choose?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

In what language do people recite at a play, and play at a recital?

Ship by truck, and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?

When a house burns up, it burns down. You fill in a form by filling it out, and an alarm clock goes off by going on.

When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

Happy Birthday, Aimee!

Aimee is now 17 years old!! My lil Sis aint so little no more.
I love you Aimee!!

Also a shout out to my rawr-riffic pal, ~Zetty Amny Zainal Abidin~
She's also celebrating her birthday today and the lucky lass is now 25!!

To all Malaysian political leaders!!

Dedicated to the Malaysian Political Scene

(Please do not sing this to the tune of the song... some of the word don't fit. Read it as a poem ;P)

Where have all the good men gone?
what's happening to our PM?
Where's the street-wise politicians?
To fight the rising odds
Would there be another Tunku
That'll cater to all our needs

We need a leader
We're holding out for a leader 'til the next elections
He's gotta be firm
And he's gotta be smart
And he'd better not stick things up the butt
We need a leader
We're holding out for a leader thats not covered in mud
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
larger than life

Somewhere after the elections
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
Was a country living in peace
no bombed model, no bribery,
no politicians who were somehow always in heat

We need a leader
We're waiting for a leader that'll know what is right
who'll know what is wrong
who's not in it for the cash
who wont go skulking in the night
we need a leader
we're holding out for a leader who'll fight right
who knows what to stand for
we're hoping it's gonna be soon
we're hoping he'll be larger than life
Larger than life

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
we pray that there's someone somewhere
who is indeed he (or she ;>)

Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
we know he'll try to fix all these things
and once again make the nation proud

Stresses of having tresses

Don't you just hate scissor-happy hairdressers? You tell them to snip off 1cm and they turn around and snip off an inch. @#$%!! *mumble grumble* You yell at them for not listening to you and they yell right back saying I had damagaed ends *mumble grumble some more* Well if I did have damaged ends TELL ME ABOUT THEM BEFORE CHOPPING OFF MY HAIR!!

Whew!! Well now thats out of the way I can get back to talking about my hair *pats newly shortened tresses*. Yes, as much as I hate the hairdresser I undeniably do have some damaged hair ends. it is the result of a not thought through hair experiment. I said it once but I'll say it again... Asians do NOT look good in with blonde hair! I repeat... Asians do NOT look good with blonde hair!! No matter if you're Malaysian. Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Indian etc. etc... blonde hair is a no-no. Take it from a person who had to endure blonde-ness for an entire week. Even after a year of hair growth and a whole bottle of blue-black hair dye, my hair-y blonde mistake still shows. I'm blaming it all on my dumb blonde moment.

As a punishment for making my hair suffer so much peroxide, I now have a problem of dry ends but with oily scalp. Please don't tell me to chop off all the dry ends because I am already doing that. Although gradually. I want to grow out my hair so chopping it off is not an option. It's already half way down my back so I'm pretty happy *lovingly strokes hair (o_O)V* After months of struggle and wasted money on hair products, I have found my solution!! All it takes is 3 simple products.

PRODUCT 1: SHAMPOO
After months of searching for the right shampoo for oily scalp that does not dry out hair, I have finally found the motherload!! Clear's anti-dandruff shampoo for oily scalp!! Although I don't have dandruff I figured I had nothing to lose from trying it. I might even prevent dandruff from forming. And it works!! I don't even need to use much. After a vigorous shampooing my hair came out all oil free but soft and silky. And this I used without a conditioner. I am loving it! No tangles. Dry ends are manageable and soft and less hair loss. Woohoo! I am sticking with this shampoo for a long time.

STEP 2: CONDITIONER
Everytime I step into a hair salon all I would hear from the hairdresser is "Your ends so dry one... you need to use more conditioner. If not I just chop off for you lor." Enough with the chopping people! You hairdressers get a kick from chopping off people's hair is it? Anyways, to look for a good conditioner for a person with oily scalp is not easy. It needs to be moisturising enough for your hair to be soft and manageable but no too moisturising that you'll look like you just poured a whole bottle of hair oil on your head mere hours after you shampooed you hair. So my perfect solution is... Tresseme light moisturising conditioner!! Its exactly what I needed. Just dab on a fair amount at the ends of your hair (stay away from the scalp, people) and voila! Lovely, soft manageable hair. It only sells in bottles of 500ml so it lasts longer. The one that I'm using is light moisturising but there's different kinds of moisturisers designed for various hair types. You can guarantee its quality because Tresseme is the official haircare product provider for Project Runway! How fierce!

STEP 3: LEAVE-In CONDITIONER
This product is actually not a must-have but I feel its important to be added in the list. For times when you wanna go out and wants to make sure your hair is all glorious, then leave-in conditioners are the way to go. I've tried various over the counter brands like Pantene, Sunsilk, Rejoice etc. etc but none of them works. So I went a little upscale and found... The Natural Source. Definitely pricey for a leave-in conditioner but money well spent. All you need to do is spray it on evenly on hair (again, stay away from the scalp people) and hurray! Lovely hair!

So these 3 combinations are my ultimate weapons for my hair care. Don't know if it'll work for you guys but it certainly works for me! No harm in trying eh?

I LOVE MY HAIR!!

Tightlining Your Eyes

Time to jump topics again. Now its back to Makeup!

Was browsing through YouTube Howto & Style channel again when I saw this video on how to tightline. What's tightlining? Just watch the video...

Now I had no clue what tightlining was before this but I've always wondered how certain people manage to line their eyes so nicely that it makes even the sparsest eyelashes look full. No matter how I line my eyes I just cant seem to fill in the gaps between my lashes. But now... no more problems. Plus tightlining also subtly dramatizes the eyes and give you that sexy smouldering look. I love dramatic eyes!

Tightlining may seem hard, and a little scary but it's really simple to do. Just make sure you have a steady hand. If not then that fear of actually poking yourself in the eye with the eyeliner might actually come true. However, never ever use liquid eyeliner to tightline. I don't think anybody has ever managed to do that before. One other tip, for those who has watery eyes or sweat a lot (like me!), you can make your tightlining last longer by setting with a black/ dark brown powder eyeshadow. Just use a liner brush, dip it lightly in the shadow and apply it using the same technique as tightlining. Voila! your eyeliner will last longer!

Seriously whoever came up with the idea of tightlining was a genius! My eyeliner is now my new best friend.

Cringeworthy Audition

Gawd... talk about butchering the English language!!

Gotta give her credit though. She improved a little on this one.

Moral of the story... You can be either be famous by being EXCELLENT at something or SUCK HORRIBLY at something. Greatest example: William Hung

Stampeding Malaysians! Run!

Topic jump again!

I wonder if its a national phenomenon here but Malaysians do have a tendency to create a mob. All you need is a nation-wide announcement and the next thing you know there'll be a mob.

The latest mob happening in Malaysia is in conjunction with our government's announcement of motorists' petrol rebate. After that announcement the post office were jam-packed with people wanting to get their hands on the cash despite the government's announcement that this rebate can be claimed until next year.

Before that, Malaysians caused a nation-wide jam by flocking to all available gas stations to fill their tanks before fuel prices go up the next day. Thing is the government gave ample warning about the price hike and yet people still wait at the last minute. For all those who waited for nearly an hour that day for fuel, don't you think you wasted more fuel by crawling slowly in line towards the gas pump. If fuel prices are going to rise again in August, expect another nation wide jam then and avoid going through roads that have gas stations along the way.

There was also the time when PDRM wanted to give all motorists a chance and gave 50% off on all summons. And then there was that time involving MyKad. So many events, so many mobs...

These Malaysians probably mob just for the heck of it. You know... to feel the adrenaline rush or experience the hot sweaty excitement of a throng of people all wanting the same thing. But there is one thing that I notice that will really get Malaysians riled up, is if there is a mention of money anywhere in the context. If you're getting money or free stuff then expect a mob on the very first day that a notification goes into effect. If you need to shell out money then expect a crowd on the very last day.

Malaysians say that Singaporeans are Kiasu. but who's kiasu now?

As the doctor prescribed... HOSPITAL!!

Aimee has DENGUE!!

Or should I say had since she's already out of the hospital. But then... the doctor still says she need to be closely monitored for the next few days so maybe she still has it. Hmm...

Anyways, bottom line is Aimee had to be hospitalised for the last 4 days because she has/ had dengue. And me, being the cute loving older sister that I am, naturally stayed with her at the hospital. You know... to keep her company and to bitch about how horrible hospital food can be no matter how much you pay them.

Note to self... never ever fall deathly ill to the point of hospitalisation so that none of my close living relatives or dear friends never ever experience the horrible torture that is the foldable metal chair. Not the most comfortable place to sleep on I tell you. In fact, I'm actually congratulating myself for being able to sleep on that horrendous contraption without hurting myself. Why? Simply because I happened to lose about a centimeter of my left middle finger due to that abomination of a chair. I owe my claw-like middle finger to that chair.

Anyways, back to Aimee... yeah she has dengue. We assume that she caught the virus when we last visited KL. My aunt's house in KL (I shall keep the location secret in fear of a panicked mob due to a fear of denggi outbreak. For those who knows where it is... shhhh!) has had its fair share of denggi victims. I think the only people who hasn't contracted the virus is the cat. And now it has claimed its latest victim, an out-of-towner from Ipoh. So last Friday the 13th *auspicious day isn't it* after a series of high fever, Aimee was admitted to Ipoh Specialist Center due to her horribly low white blood cell count. Half of what it should have been on a normal healthy person. She was put on an IV drip and close observation. Dengue if caught early is treatable although there is no specific cure for it. But what makes dengue deadly is that people can just mistake it for high fever and leave it untreated for too long.

In a way I was both worried yet at the same time I was excited. Not excited because my baby sister was sick but because this is the first time ever that somebody other than myself is the patient. I think I have been in and out of hospital more than I can remember. I've lost a bit of my finger, nearly lost a toe, had stomach virus, growth on my chest... so basically the hospital isn't so new to me. So me not being the patient this time was exciting. I think I embarassed Aimee by taking pictures of her when she was on the drip. Would definitely put them up but I might end up in the hospital again after Aimee brutally kick my ass for it.

But of course all new things will lose its charm after a while. Even the onslought of snacks given by well-wishers couldn't keep my enthusiasm for being at the hospital up. By the third night I was ready to go home! At least for me I get to go home during the day but Aimee was stuck there. Kesian dia...

Thank God she's home now though. I was really afraid that she may need to stay there for like a couple more days when she suddenly started getting a nosebleed that wouldn't stop for an hour. Selfish thoughts were running through my head then, all I wanted to do was go home and never return. But I have to be there for Aimee. My respect for my dear mum has increased tenfold because of this experience. Now I know at least a little bit of what she went through when dad was sick. Hence I really hope that none of my dear ones ever have to go through that kind of experience for me.

For Aimee, the silver lining to all this is she had 2 extra weeks off from school. Though I can't wait to see the look on her face when her teacher gives her all the homework she missed for the last 2 weeks. As for me... being in a hospital just feeds my hematophobia. Not a good thing at all! Luckily I didn't pass out when Aimee started bleeding into her IV tube. Even thinking about it makes my hands go all weak *shudders*

Moral of the story: Kill all Mosquitoes. They're baad!!

Happy Birthday, Sheena!

to my dear friend Sheena... Happy 26th Birthday!! Hope you have a good one this year!!

p.s. She's the one on the left. My vanity refused to allow me to upload another pic. I just had to be in the picture too.

Are Americans really that stupid? You decide...

Found this video a while back and to this very day, it has not ceased to amaze me. I can watch it a hundred times and my reactions would still be the same... slaps forehead while going D'oh!

Now before I go on with my ramblings, do watch the video.

Oh-kay then... what do you think. I don't mean any disrespect to anybody but how can one nation have so many clueless people? How can you not know how many sides there are to a triangle?! That's like something learned when I was back in kindergarten/ pre-school.

You can excuse people who don't know general knowledge because I have met people who are so absorbed in their own world that they totally zone out from the world's on-goings. And I guess you can probably excuse people for not knowing where a certain country is although the fact that some people don't know that the country they labeled as South Korea is actually Australia is still pretty mind-boggling to me. I mean, Australia is a continent for God's sake. But how can you excuse saying that Star Wars is based on a true story?!

My fave question in the video:

What is the religion of Buddhist Monks?

... Islamic ...

*shakes head* Oh God...

Another fave moment:

I'm a little bit mixed up over the Israelis and the Palestinians. Which one is throwing the rocks?

*hangs head in shame*

This video is like complementing that Miss America Teen pageant that came up last year (refer to blog archive September, 2007 for the video). If another one of these videos pop up anytime soon then it is confirmed that an epidemic of stupidity is going around. So I suggest that people everywhere should take the necessary precautions before you actually catch 'the dumbs'.

M&M Cru (with a U) Final Dance Battle [latest update]

It's finally out. M&M Cru's latest dance vid.

I don't know yet if I like it. I think I have to watch it again.

But based on the YouTube comments, most people feel that its just a rip off of ACDC's dance vid. In certain aspects I have to agree with them because M&M are not bringing anything new to the table. I think M&M would've probably WOWed people more if they brought in more type of dance into their video, you know like ballet, flamenco etc.. Hip Hop dance isn't the only genre of dancing out there you know.

But the video was rather entertaining. I just can't wait to see what ACDC is gonna come up with! Woohoo!! There's a hint that there's gonna be a live battle. Now that's something everybody should watch out for. Imagine... Miley Cyrus in a live dance battle. *ROFL* That ought to be priceless!

M&M vs. ACDC Online Dance Battle Update

M&M is supposed to release their latest dance video today but since I'm living 8 hours ahead of their time I shall patiently wait for the release. For the time being, here's another teaser of their video. Didn't realise it was out last week due to the internet's shitty connection.

Anywhoo, come back later for M&M dance cru (with a u) *the disclaimer is corny* and lets see if they can actually end this dance battle once and for all.

Everybody is doing "it"

So in conjunction with the blog title 'Incoherent Thoughts', I shall now break off from makeup talk and talk about ANIMAL SEX!!

Yeap... it's that time of the year again. I know that there's a song that actually talks about this, you know... where everything and everybody is doing it but somehow I can't put my finger on the it. Sheesh... really hate it when that happens. It's at the tip of the tongue but your brains refuse to cooperate. Dammit... *sigh* it'll probably hit me sometime tomorrow when I'm doing the most unlikeliest things.

So yeah... everybody is doing "it". The song may be talking about something less graphic but let's not beat around the bush here. I'm gonna say it out and out, SEX. I know for a fact that a few of my friends are finally getting their first taste of making sweet luurrve *nudge nudge wink* hehehe. So anywhoo... even the birds and the bees and apparently pretty much all of the animal kingdom are in the mood for it. My trip to the zoo this time was both utterly amusing yet a little gross.

Now before all y'all start getting judgmental about why a 25 year old is at the zoo, let it be known that I was dragged there kicking and screaming by my 17 year old sister and my 27 year old cousin. The added strength of my mom's emotional blackmail just made it all the easier for 'those' two to actually get me there.

It's bad enough that I have to walk around in the blistering hot sun amidst all the hyper, yelling, screaming children *school holidays... the bane of my existence*, I was then subjected to penis flashings from the animals. GROSS!! *shudders* Apparently I wasn't the only one grossed out by those 'things' as I saw several people *through the cracks between my fingers* walking around with hands over their eyes or on their kids' eyes. What's the point of bringing your kids to the zoo if you're gonna cover their eyes?

However, I was thoroughly amused by the perplexed look parents got when their kids ask them the dreaded question, "Mom... Dad... why is that monkey/ horse/ kangaroo going on top of the other one? what are they doing?" *LMAO* Yeah... dad, why did the other one go on top of that one? Priceless *wipes away tears*

This question was ringing throughout the entire zoo, I saw giant tortoises doing it, birds, kangaroos, monkeys, goats, alligators... you name it. It's like Animal Planet, only live. Note the picture of the goats, the she-goats were actually lining up for their turns. See... even animals knows when to wait their turn. What's with humans and their fetishes for orgies and multiple partners? *shakes head*

I pity the animals that were alone in their pen though. I wonder how they let loose their sexual frustrations? I hope they don't take it out on their keepers... you know, like dogs do to their owners when horny-ness strikes them. Imagine if a hippo tried to mount you, I betcha you'll be traumatised for life. *lol*

But on a more serious note, the zoo needs help. It's clean but it's old. Some of the animals looks too skinny to actually be healthy and the fact that there were several animals that were alone in their pen shows that the zoo didn't have enough money to bring in a mate for the animal. What adds to the unfairness is that several animals are sponsored so their pens are in a much better condition than others. I just feel that people shouldn't be selective with their donations. All animals deserve the same treatment.

So to help out y'all can check out their webpage www.zoonegara.org.my. You can either choose to adopt an animal which means you need to take care of the well-being of that animal, donate money (any amount is acceptable as there were people who donated less that RM50 and were still listed in the donors list), or if you love working with animals you can volunteer your services. You even get a certificate for it so for those who wants to buff up their resumes, volunteer work is definitely the way to go.

Seriously if I had the money, I'll adopt all the animals. But being unemployed for the moment, I guess my Rm15 entrance fee would have to suffice for now.

Mac Brushes vs. Painting Brushes

Just wanted to add on to the last post. For some of you who are looking for other alternatives to makeup brushes sold in Cosmetics stores, this video will give you a clue to what you should look for. Painting Brushes!!

I'm gonna go check out the local arts and crafts store as soon as I have some free time and see if I can find any reasonable brushes that can compare to the ones mentioned in the video.

Essential Brushes

Been browsing through YouTube 'How to & Style' channel again and found some video dedicated to the essentials in makeup brushes. I know that most individuals who wears makeup, they make do with the applicators that comes with the products or even with their own fingers. However, for all makeup lovers everywhere, we know that a good brush can actually help you achieve that polished, professional look that can be seen in magazines.

I definitely would've posted up the video showing all the necessary makeup brushes but somehow I dont think that it would be a good idea. Not that the videos were not any good, (those people went through a lot of research to make the videos, so kudos to them) simply because they weren't really targeted to the market here. Other than Mac, which seems to be the unanimous favourite for makeup brushes among these makeup afficianados, where are we suppose to go for Sephora or Loew Cornel and what-nots? So to help fill in the blanks, I shall list down the 'must have' essential brushes according to these helpful makeup mavens and also according to my own humble experiences and where to find them.

There's like a gazillion types of makeup brushes out there so its best that you don't get fooled by the false pretense that you need every single one of them. Plus If you tried to buy them all, you would run out of money and places to store them. For normal everyday usage, all you need is 5 essential makeup brushes to achieve that flawless professional look.

1. Flat Head Concealer Brush

This brush is basically used to apply concealers, hence the name. The flat head allows for more precision and better control for blending. It doesn't matter if you use liquid, cream or powder, a small concealer brush will make covering up tiny imperfections a snap. Cosmetics brands such as Mac, Bobbi Brown or Stila would usually price this brush from RM65 to RM100. However, for those with a smaller budget you can get this brush from Elianto or Sasa.

2. Eyeliner Brush

Most people tend to prefer using pencil liners rather than deal with tricky liquid eyeliners or gel liners. However, liquid or gel liners offers longer lasting results than the pencil liner which smudges or wear off pretty quickly, sometimes leaving you looking like a raccoon without you knowing it (I have suffered this incident countless times. To all my friends who were too polite to tell me, bless them). A plus at having a liner brush is that you can use your favorite eyeshadow as an eyeliner by applying it with a thin eyeliner brush. You can vary the effect by using the brush wet or dry, and the colours are limited only by the eye shadows you have in your collection. This way you can cut cost from not buying different coloured eyeliners to suit your makeup moods. If you're willing to invest, you can fork out around Rm45 for this brush but if you're not then just head to Sasa (elianto doesn't have the thin brush) and get it for RM20. The eyeliner brush can come in two designs, either the thin brush (looks like a really thin paintbrush) or the slant brush (the bristles are angled). I prefer the angled brush myself as it allows better control.

3. Foundation Brush

This brush is usually used to apply powder mineral makeup to achieve that flawless finish though it works equally as well with liquid or cream foundation. It makes blending easy and makes pores disappear. If you use the brush for a liquid or cream foundation remember to wash your brush with warm soapy water frequently. Usual price for this brush would be around RM75 - Rm100. For those on budget, head on down to Sasa or Elianto. I even saw some good brushes being sold in Guardian and Watsons as well.

4. Kabuki Brush

Also known as the blush brush. Was pretty clueless when kabuki brushes was mentioned but when I checked my own collection, turns out I already have one but with a longer handle! So anyways, this brush is perfect for applying bronzers, powders and blushes. Look for a Kabuki brush with thick, heavily packed natural hair bristles as they deliver a smooth, even coat of powder or mineral make-up with a few strokes. Short Kabuki brushes are perfect for those who are usually on the go as you can always stash them in your purse. Prices for this brush usually starts from RM75. The Body Shop is also another cosmetics company that carries good makeup brushes and you know for a fact that they dont torture animals to manufacture these brushes.

5. Large Eyeshadow Brush

Sometimes, a simple wash of colour over the entire eyelid is more effective (and subtle) than heavily stylized eye makeup. Besides it simple to do and perks up your eyes instantly. To get a clean, natural look, a large rounded eyeshadow brush is a must. A good brush will evenly apply colour from lash base to brow bone in a few strokes. It will also keep powdered shadows on the eyelid instead of on the cheeks or nose. Sasa is selling these for around RM30, Elianto, Guardian and Watson should be selling these at a far cheaper price. Bigger cosmetic companies usually price these brushes around RM80.

So these are the top 5 makeup brushes that a girl should have. If you don't have them, go get them! If you do... then good for you!

There's several other items that I feel would complement these brushes.
  • Sponge Wedges - Good for blending concealers in small tight spaces like under your eyes.
  • Q-tips/ Cotton buds - Get the tapered-end cotton buds as they are perfect to correct little mistakes or smudges. Found some good ones in Guardian.
So that's all the makeup tools that you need for your everyday makeup needs. But as you go along your makeup tools will probably start to build up according to your needs. It's like my case where I suddenly realised that I had more stuff than I remembered buying. So I hope the list has helped. If any of you out there knows any other specific places here in Malaysia to get good quality makeup brushes and makeup tools here in Malaysia, would love to hear from you. Feel free to leave a comment!

Makeup Mania

It's been while since I last dabbled with one of the loves of my life. Makeup. I actually gave it up in the hopes that it wont distract me with my (lame) attempt to concentrate on my thesis writing. This blog is proof at how lame that attempt was *grins*.

So anyhoo... one night I found myself surfing YouTube for makeup techniques since I lost my fave makeup book and can no longer afford those books due to my current hiatus from work. Whoever took that makeup book of mine better give it or you shall FOREVER BURN IN HELL!! *coughs*

Yeah... I really LOVED that book. So give it back please.

Back to makeup... found this really great gal from America who does makeup tutorials on YouTube. Her makeup is fantastic since she's olive skinned and "cute" like myself, she is now my Makeup Guru. Beats having to shell out hundreds of bucks just to learn the same things that she's showing online. The only thing that sucks is that she's using all these products that is not available here in Malaysia or something that I can't possibly afford anytime soon. Sheesh... but other than that fact she's simply a pro. Check out her blog http://kuuipo1207.blogspot.com

This is one of my fave videos from her tutorials. It's a tutorial on everyday makeup which makes your face looks natural and fresh. And simple to do too. But what I simply love about this video is the fact that she's using alternative brushes, something that you can find from shops like Sasa or Elianto which wont burn a hole in your pocket. So WOOHOO to that.

Also found another gal, this time from Britain, who also does amazing makeup. Though in her case I think, partly, the reason why the makeup comes out great is because she has amazing eyes. Although the way she applies her makeup does indicate that she truly knows what she's doing. I think she's really famous in Britain. She's more friendlier though out of the two since she talks in her tutorials but I hafta warn you, her Brit accent is pretty thick...

This vid is a tutorial to make brown eyes 'pop'. Since I have a wedding to go to soon and I'm planning to wear green so I'm naturally attracted to this vid. Hopefully my eyes wont be the only ones that 'pop' that night. *lol*

Check out her blog http://panacea81.blogspot.com. Oh... and if you check out her other vids, you can probably hear her dog snoring. *lmao*

I've recently sent in a request for the two of them two show makeup tips and tricks for people who wears glasses. I'm hoping that they'll respond soon enough. My biggest problem with wearing glasses is the fact that my lashes tend to sweep against the lenses. Feels like I have my very own wiper blades.

Am gonna keep this blog updated with their works though will only be posting up my fave videos. Still looking out for more individuals who are good at this stuff. Will be great to compare their tips and tricks.

Am also kinda contemplating to start my own makeup video tutorials but we'll see. Dunno if I'm confident enuff with my work yet. *hehe*

A Not-So-Typical Adventure

On a typical afternoon, two typical sisters were typically hanging out doing typical things that typical people would typically do on a typical day.

When suddenly, they heard something that was not so typical.

Me: Hey didcha hear that?
Aimee: Hear what?
Me: that... that scratching sound.

(momentary pause)

Aimee: Nope... don't hear a thing.
Me: Hmmm...

So the two sisters typically went back to doing what the were doing before. When all of a sudden...

Me: there it is again!! It's coming from the cupboard!!
Aimee: A'ah... I can hear it too. I think there's something moving around in there.

(both leans in towards cupboard, listening intently)

Aimee: (solemn faced) Big sis... I think you have a rat in your cupboard.
Me: (dramatically) NNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!

So the two sisters typically started to think of ways to solve this not-so-typical problem so that they can get back to their everyday typical actvities. Typically, they set a trap for the rat. But after several attempts, they typically gave up and moved on to a new plan. The not-so-typical rat was proving to be a much smarter rat than they typically thought. After brainstorming for more typical ideas, they were typically forced to resort to the old foolproof method of 'seek and capture'. The sisters were typically grossed out by the idea but they had no other typical choice unless they were willing to be roomies with a rat. And that idea, typically did not appeal to the sisters at all.

And so the search begins. With the help of a typically long stick, the sisters began to remove items of their typical clothing from the cupboard. The not-so-typical rat however, ensured that his not-so-typical home was well protected in case of a siege and thus as the typical sisters moved deeper and deeper into the cupboard, their senses were typically attacked by an overwhelming smell of rat pee and rat poop. Eeeyyuuuwww!!

Undeterred by this not-so-typical attack, the typical sisters ploughed on until suddenly...

Me: (Screams shrilly) There it is!! It's coming right at us!!
Aimee: Aiyeee... relax la. Penakut betul kamu ni.

Aimee, typicall being the bravest despite being the youngest, started to chase the not-so-typical rat around the room until it finally climbed up the drapes and typically escaped through the window.

Me: phew...
Aimee: Thats his home now. He can come back you know...
Me; Wha...??!! (shudders violently)

So what do you think is the typical ending for this not-so-typical drama?

The rat came back and drove the sisters out of the room for a couple of days, typically. (-_*)
